 Surf Life Saving Awards 

Any person may train to become a Surf Lifesaver. There are a number of awards a person can achieve throughout their career as a Surf Lifesaver. The following is a guide that you may be able to attempt. Please contact our office if you would like any further information on the clubs number 07 5591 3895 Ext. 2.

Surf Rescue Certificate - for children aged 13 and 14. This is a preliminary award that enables the young teens to gain the taste for surf lifesaving with the learning of surf awareness, surf safety, rescue, basic first aid and resuscitation skills. Once gaining this award they can become part of the patrol team to further their learning of their more experienced peers until they are at the age to gain their bronze medallion.

Surf Bronze Medallion - this award is the award is the general lifesaver award for any person aged 15 years or over. This award expands on the skills and knowledge gained in the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). A person does not have to hold the SRC to be able to gain their bronze. The whole range of knowledge and skills required by surf lifesavers is learnt and then examined in this award. By then patrolling the bronze medallion holder can then put their skills and knowledge into practice, furthering their ability as a surf lifesaver.

Advanced Resuscitation Certificate - an award for persons 16 years and over This award extends on the resuscitation from the bronze medallion, with the addition of oxy-viva air bag and spinal brace usage. It requires precision and effective use of Patient assessment, EAR, CPR and oxygen equipment usage as the main requirements.

Silver Medallion ~ IRB Drivers - an award for people 17 years and over. This award allows a person to drive the Inflatable Rescue Boat for training and to effect rescues when it requires.

Silver Medallion ~ Patrol Captains - this award is for those people who have the responsibility of Patrol Captain, to ensure that they fully know the requirements and responsibilities of their position.

Silver Medallion ~ Life Support - This award furthers the knowledge and skills of the Advanced Resuscitation and Senior First aid courses to allow the recipient to be more equipped to deal with major trauma, especially as a leader in a team situation.

Gold Medallion ~ Advanced Lifesaver - An award for candidates 18 years and over. This award requires the person to hold all other SLSA awards before attempting, It is the pinnacle lifesaving award for the exceptional lifesaver.

Other awards - A person may also gain other Communication awards (radio), Instructor Awards, and Examiner awards. See the SLSC Training Manual for a full description and requirements of each award.
